How do I set up my Netgear wireless router?

The following set of instructions enables you to set up your Netgear router without the use of the Smart Wizard CD and only takes a couple of moments

  • Connect the router to a PC or laptop via an Ethernet lead from any one of the four ports.
  • Click on Internet Explorer, and type this address into the address bar: http://www.routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm. The browser will open and go straight the router's Basic Configuration page.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “apply”. This switches on the wireless function.
  • The screen will refresh and display a dialogue box requesting a user name and password.
  • Enter admin as the username and password as the password.
  • The screen will refresh. Select “Wireless Settings” from left-hand menu.


  • Select Name (SSID)Default will be UPC
    Select RegionEurope
    Select ChannelPreferrably Channel 11
    Select ModeG only




  • Next go to Security Options:
  • Select WEP and enter a min of 8 character password. Your installer has set this to your account number, if you choose to change this password you will need to take note of it for future use. If you are unsure check your desktop, your installer may have saved a file (notepad) on your desktop with these details.
